SUMMARY:All Souls Contradance
DESCRIPTION:Featuring The Privy Tippers with Claire Zucker calling. \nInspired by Dia de los Muertos and Tucson’s own All Souls Procession\, Tucson Friends of Traditional Music is featuring their 2nd Annual All Souls Contradance. This will be a contradance just as any other\, so if you just want to come and dance\, great. However we would like to invite you to use this dance as an opportunity to celebrate the lives of your loved ones who have passed. You can participate in whatever way suits you: wear costume\, pin a picture of a loved one on yourself\, bring a photo or object to place on the altar. \nWe’ll provide an urn for your mementos\, prayers\, messages\, and remembrances. These will be added to the Urn at the All Souls Procession where\, at the Finale\, the Urn is burned\, and our collective hopes\, prayers\, love\, grief\, memories\, tributes\, and remembrances are consumed by the flames dissolving into the ether. \nMany regard contradance as a joyful celebration of life. It lifts our spirits\, vitalizes our bodies and nourishes our need for connection. On this evening we expand this celebration to include those who are gone but still with us. \nDay of the Dead is one of the oldest of holiday celebrations dating back to Pre-Columbian times. It is a time when family and friends who have died are recognized as a vital and powerful part of life and the line between the dead and the living grows thinner. People gather in homes and in cemeteries with the souls of their beloved dead to feast and pray and appreciate the blessings of friends and family and community! \nWe will gather on the dance floor and remember those who have gone before us.  Do it in your own way or so that everyone can see. \nProceeds support the All Souls Procession. (Special $5 admission for anyone under 25 years old!)

SUMMARY:Many Bones One Heart Film Showing
DESCRIPTION:  \nKick off your All Souls Procession week with a screening of Many Bones\, One Heart\, the award-winning documentary about the people who create Tucson’s All Souls Procession! \nThe film traces a passage from loss to celebration—a course etched by artistic expression and the flowering of a cultural tradition. While exploring this history\, the film propels us through a hectic two months of preparations for the 2012 All Souls Procession. Some 90\,000 participants attend the 2012 Procession\, many conveying their sorrow\, many voicing their joy\, as they gather at sunset in the streets of downtown Tucson to honor The Dead and celebrate The Living. \nOrder your tickets in advance\, as this showing will sell out. A portion of the proceeds will help fund the 2015 All Souls Procession Weekend. \nhttps://vimeo.com/141134106

SUMMARY:Procession of Little Angels
DESCRIPTION:The day before the big Procession\, a small Procession takes place in Armory Park. The park fills with children and families\, gathering to paint wings\, create paper flowers\, get their faces painted\, dress in costumes created at our kids’ costuming workshops\, and approach grief from a child-friendly\, child-driven place. Stories that Soar! and Tucson Circus Arts students team up to perform local children’s stories about death and grief\, and as the sun sets\, everyone processes around the park. \nAll ages are welcome. Throughout the park\, shrines to remember the dead have been set up by people who want to memorialize someone\, as the Personal Altars Vigil takes place in conjunction with Little Angels. And everyone is welcome to place a remembrance of a child on the Children’s Altar. This year\, we will be joined by guest artist Sharon Stevens and her Digital Shrine. \nFree to attend\, but donations help defray the cost of art supplies\, permits\, and infrastructure. \n

SUMMARY:Digital Shrine
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Sharon Stevens as a guest artist! Sharon hails from Calgary\, Canada\, where she founded and organizes the Equinox Vigil\, a gathering to creatively honor the dead. Equinox Vigil has a lot in common with the All Souls Procession\, and we are delighted to be able to bring a piece of it to Tucson. \nSharon will be bringing her Digital Shrine\, an installation where messages to the dead are projected onto a screen. You can submit messages for the Digital Shrine online here (do so before Saturday the 7th!) or in-person at the event. \nAll messages will also be printed out and placed in the Urn for burning at the Finale Ceremony on Sunday. \nWe may also be able to incorporate some of these messages into the Ancestors Project projection during the Finale Ceremony on Sunday. \nPlease note that Sharon will be at the Personal Altars Vigil during the hours listed below\, but projection will not begin until after the sun starts to set. \n\n

SUMMARY:All Saints Concert
DESCRIPTION:A benefit concert to support the All Souls Procession. Beautiful classical music performed by world class guitarist Eduardo Minozzi Costa\, who will play works by Couperin\, Scarlotti\, Lauro\, Tarrega\, and more\, in an outdoor setting surrounded by mountains. 60% of proceeds will benefit Many Mouths One Stomach\, producers of the All Souls Procession. \nPlease be aware that this performance will take place outside in a natural desert setting on an elevated area in the foothills. Please wear footwear that is appropriate for desert terrain\, and avoid coming into contact with any plants\, as some shrubs that appear harmless actually harbor thorns. Hats are recommended if it’s a sunny day. There is a one block walk from the parking area to the performance venue. There will be no late admission as the performance will be continuous without an intermission.

SUMMARY:All Souls Procession & Finale Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:GATHERING\nProcession gathering starts at 4:00 PM on November 8\, on 6th Avenue just south of 6th Street. \nIf you are planning to sit to watch the Procession\, do NOT gather in this area—there are way too many people. Choose somewhere further along the route. \nAnd\, if you are planning on walking\, you may want to join in further along the route as well. There are a whole lot of people trying to walk\, and it can get very\, very crowded at the gathering area. \nUshers in Usher sashes will be helping to guide the Procession. Please respect their requests of you—and help them out along the way! \nFloats\, large groups\, and musical groups\, we will need you to register ahead of time to get details on how and when to enter the Procession. Please sign up to receive registration information. Ushers will release you into the Procession as it passes to maintain optimal spacing. \nHUNGRY GHOST BUSKING TROUPE\nHungry Ghost—the official All Souls Street Busking Fundraising crew—will be busking at the gathering point\, along the Procession\, and at the Finale grounds. They’ll have pedicabs\, bullhorns\, and signs to identify them. Please donate whatever you can to help support the Procession. We depend on the support of people like you! \nPROCESSION\nWe walk starting at 6:30. You will be walking in city streets and in an unfinished dirt lot. So wear comfy shoes\, bring water\, and you might want a flashlight. Please keep an eye out for each other! All of us are responsible for taking care of each other. \nDowntown has very few public restrooms. There are port-a-potties at the gathering and Finale site along with a couple of other locations along the route and restrooms in the Mercado San Agustin. Local businesses may be happy to let you use a restroom if you are also patronizing their business. \nIf you want to push a float or a stroller\, please do\, but know that it takes a little work. The route is about 2 miles and we walk slowly. Consider starting further along the route if you need to. \nIf you are not walking in the Procession\, but are watching from the sidewalk\, please stay on the curb as the Procession approaches you. Once the Urn & taiko drums pass\, feel free to step in and join the Procession if you would like. \nIf you have a large group\, musical group\, or float\, it’s not a bad idea to register ahead of time so we can help you enter the Procession smoothly. Details will be sent out by Friday of Procession week. \nURN\nThe Urn is at the front of the Procession. Everyone is invited to make offerings\, which will be burnt in the Finale. People typically write down prayers and dreams\, habits they are letting go of or initiating\, the names of loved ones\, pictures\, trinkets\, etc. Anything that isn’t toxic is cool to put into the Urn: paper is good; plastic is not. The combined energy of all of our wishes\, prayers and remembrances and the ritual burning of them is a defining part of the whole experience. \nPlease do not get between the Urn and the Procession’s police escort or crowd up around the Urn as you walk. The Urn Attendants need to be able to get to all the people along the street to collect their messages and remembrances. \nIf you want to physically bring your offerings\,  you can bring them to any of these locations \n\nTo the Urn at The Procession of Little Angels\, November 7\, 4PM-8PM\, Armory Park\nTo the Urn at the 6th Avenue Gateway\, November 8\, 4PM-6PM\, 6th Ave & 7th Street\nTo the Urn at the front of the Procession during the Procession\, November 8\nTo the 4th Avenue Pre-Party\, November 8\, 3PM-5PM\, Haggerty Park\nTo the Columbarium on the Finale Site Grounds\, November 8\, 4PM-6PM\n\nYou can also submit your offerings ahead of time electronically if you want to ensure that they get in. \nSTREETCAR\nThe streetcar will be running the night of the Procession. We suggest that you purchase streetcar passes in advance to avoid the rush at the Procession. \nBecause of the overhead electrical lines\, NO floats/puppets can be over 12 feet tall. And please be careful around the tracks and the streetcars. We may need to pause occasionally to accommodate the streetcar. \nFINALE CEREMONY\nThe Finale Ceremony will take place next door to Mercado San Agustin. If you have a float\, musical group\, or large crew and want to participate in the Domo (walk across the stage before the Finale Ceremony). The entrance is at the east end of the stage (toward I-10). Turn down Linda Ave to head for the Domo staging area. Ushers will hold you there until the Urn arrives from the Columbarium. After the Urn arrives\, you will be allowed into the staging area. \nAt the Finale site\, you will see a designated area for floats and groups that are going to participate in the Domo. DO NOT enter this area unless you are a float or group planning to participate in the Domo. \nIf you need handicapped-accessible seating\, there is a designated area at the front of the Finale grounds. The entrance is off of Avenida del Convento near the Finale stage. Map to come. \nFinale Ceremony will start around 8:30\, though the exact time will depend on when the bulk of the Procession arrives at the Finale grounds. \nIf you can’t make it to the Finale Ceremony\, you can watch it streamed live online at www.visittucson.org/allsoulsprocession. URL will be active the night of Procession. \nFor more on the Finale theme & musical guest\, check out our blog! \nCLEAN UP\nWe will be gathering at 10AM Monday morning at the Finale site to clean up. If you can join us\, please do! Many hands makes short work! Bring your own gloves. We always need more hands! Please sign up to help out. And\, even if you can’t join us Monday morning\, please lend a hand by picking up trash as you leave the Finale site. Your efforts will be appreciated Monday morning! \nDO\nCome and enjoy the experience in a way that works for you. Dress up\, get out of your regular regimen and persona: make a mask\, a puppet\, an art installation\, an altar\, some way of honoring those who have gone before\, who we remember\, honor\, release\, and embrace. Allow yourself to flow into an experience of real community\, where we interact in ways that are different\, authentic to our nature\, and open to our feelings. \nDON’T\nBe high\, drunk\, or in anyone else’s space in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable. This event should be safe to bring a newborn infant to\, or your dear aging grandmother. What allows the magic to happen is for everyone to feel safe. It is your job to create this kind of space. The moment we require help from police or any other authority to make sure that happens\, we have lost something truly precious. \nDO\nRecognize this amazing opportunity to interact with each other in the streets in ways we would like the rest of the world to experience. This does not mean an abandonment of responsibility: just the opposite. The freedom we can express during this event is EARNED through our responsibility. Anybody with a different agenda needs to go do that someplace else. \nAnd we will see you in the streets. Love to you all!
