Grief and Bereavement Support

If you’re walking the procession and the heaviness of your loss is too much to bear, you’re welcome to visit the Tucson End of Life Doulas (TEOLD) in the Garden of Gethsemane, where we will have a dedicated space for those who need to mourn with compassionate companions. We understand that while the All Soul’s Procession is a time to celebrate and remember the dead, we’re also aware that the pain of your losses can be overwhelming, so we encourage you to meander over to our installation to share your grief with us. Kleenex and hugs provided freely.

Let’s Talk About Death

Are you curious about death? Your mortality? What happens after you die? Or just plain freaked out about death? Then sit with our Death Doulas who are ready and eager to hold a conversation with you about all things end-of-life. We won’t judge you at all; we will simply allow our curiosity and playful nature to lead us into the unknown together! Here, you can also sign-up for “Coffee with a Death Doula” to know more about this important work, post-procession.

Burial Enshrouding Demos

Step right up and learn about the sacred ritual of burial shrouds. Our Doulas will guide you through the gentle process of wrapping a body for burial. You could even be the lucky body being enshrouded! Sign-up for the swaddle, which will take place every half hour between 4:00pm and 9:00pm. These demos involve being wrapped ever so gently in soft linen by a Death Doula. Or just come learn about this lost art that’s making its way back into our hearts through the home funeral and green burial movements.

Altar for Note-Writing for Finale Urn

All are welcome to our humble Altar of Remembrance and Place for Pause where you can write your deceased loved ones personal notes. All notes will be placed in the All Soul’s Procession Finale Urn.

Decorate Our Cardboard Coffin of Remembrance

Come decorate our cardboard ‘Coffin of Remembrance:’ a community art piece to cherish memories of our deceased relatives, friends and pets! The collective art coffin is a fun activity to remember our loved ones with humor, levity and creativity. Bring the kids to decorate or just sign the coffin!

Sensorial Sensations Throughout the Garden

Allow us to take you on a sensorial journey through sight, sound and smell. First, notice the sounds of the Aztecs in the background, while light scents of frankincense fill the air. Then, meet local Healer Rudy Avalos who offers multi-cultural smudging and cleansing using sweetgrass, copal and palo santo. Lastly, take in the art we’ve created for you to enjoy as your loved ones inhabit your heart during this special occasion. We love you, Tucson!

All these services are offered to the public, on this special day, free of charge!
